Prayers for Christian Unity

Join us in our Prayers

If you were planning to attend the service in St. Bride’s for Christian Unity but weather or other committments prevent you from being there you can still join in with the prayers.  Below are the prayers prepared by Westwood Church for that service.  These prayers focus on communications – a concern in Westwood Church just now – and also giving thanks for the warm generosity of the people who make up the congregation.

Leader

Father God, we come to you only to aware of the burdens we carry, the anxieties we have over what the future holds, the many questions that dominate our thinking to which we have so few answers.

Lord God we understand how easy it is for us to get bogged down in the mire of our anxieties, so bogged down that we cannot see a way out of our difficulties. So for a moment allow our hearts to rise in thanksgiving, help us to see things in a new way and experience the joyfulness of your presence.

Response

Lord, help us to have a vision of your presence, to hear your voice and share your Good News

Leader

Lord Jesus we thank you for the people of God who are all around us, who faithfully worship you, offering their prayers, singing your praises and giving of themselves in service. Remind us Lord that you are always present within your people’s hearts.

Response

Lord, help us to have a vision of your presence, to hear your voice and share your Good News

Leader

Lord Jesus when as people we have our differences, or feel a depth of frustration and anger, when we fail to understand and become blinded to the presence of Christ in each of us, when we close our hearts to each other rather than be open and forgiving.

Response

Lord, help us to have a vision of your presence, to hear your voice and share your Good News

Leader

Lord Jesus you came to us as the Word made Flesh, through you the Father communicated his love for all people. Help us to communicate love to each other in all circumstances, to uphold the worth of every individual and show tolerance in all our relationships; for the journey of faith is played out as much amongst each other as it is in the world out there. As we live out the Good News in fellowship and service so may we find the means and the courage to share that Good News with others.

Response

Lord, help us to have a vision of your presence, to hear your voice and share your Good News. AMEN
