Today is the deadline for submitting articles to the Church magazine.  If you have not yet put pen to paper then please do so as soon as possible.  Submissions can be left in the box in the church corridor or sent directly by email to Janet Vall. Details are available on the rear of any church magazine.

At the end of this month, Saturday 25thAugust to be exact. Right Rev Susan Brown, Moderator of the Church of Scotland will be participating in “Power Walk” a Christian aid event highlighting the effects of climate change.  The event takes place at Whitelee Windfarm from 11am for those who enjoy walking.  Prior to the walk Susan Brown will be guest speaker at the Carswell Centre, Eaglesham at 10am.  A poster is available on the church notice boards for those who may want to participate.

Now a date for your diary if you feel particularly brave.  Sleep in the Park takes place this year on 8thDecember. The event serves to highlight the plight of those who are homeless. Those participating in the event are encouraged to camp out over night on what will be undoubtedly a very cold night.  The venue for west of Scotland is Kelvingrove Park.  If you want to know more do check our church website event calendar for 8th December.

Over this last little while consideration has been given to replacing the cooker in our church kitchen.  The current appliance is now obsolete making it impossible to acquire the spare parts we need to fix the oven door.  It is time to move toward a more robust and commercial facility that will serve us better.  Such equipment comes with a price tag, of course, so to set the ball rolling I’m proposing to do a sponsored walk across Whitelee Windfarm along with man’s best friend, my wee dog Jet.  It’s about 10 miles from Strathaven at the Ardochrig entrance over to the Eaglesham Visitor centre following the spine road.  I’m happy to have company and fellow fundraisers on the walk especially if they have a good sense of direction!  The proposed date is Sunday 2nd September from 2pm but may change depending on weather conditions.
